ROAMING IN BANFF

Source: Canadian Transit Heritage Foundation bulletin, February 2013

Transit service in Banff National Park,  Alberta area operates under the ROAM banner. The transit authority is responsive for trips in the cities of Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise.

The fleet includes four Nova Bus LFS HEV hybrid buses. All carry colorful wraps and are known by their animal markings – grizzly bear, wolf, elk and mountain goat. Additional Nova Bus LFS units and mini buses have been added since the start of service in June 2008.

Observation of the service shows that ridership is very good with heavy loads at all times of day. Many of the riders work in the town area but live outside of the main tourist areas. The age profile appears to be very young and a high proportion of the riders use prepaid bus passes.
