VOLVO OCEAN RACE MIAMI: REFRESHINGLY FESTIVE
The Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier offshore race, an impressive adventure and a magnificient sporting challenge. The Downtown Miami Race Village will welcome the Volvo Ocean Race for a 14-day event, May 6-20, 2012. The event is open to the public.
The 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race kicked off October 29 in Alicante, Spain, and Leg 6 (out of 10) of this continent race will culminate in Miami, the competition’s only North American stopover. In addition to its rich history of sailing in the South Florida community—Miami is home to the United States Sailing Center—the City of Miami is an international hub renowned for its cultural diversity and celebratory spirit. As such, the Volvo Ocean Race Committee is thrilled to call Miami its only North American stopover for this global event.
The Port of Miami—recognized as the “cruise capital” of the world with more than 3.5 million annual passengers—will mark the entrance point for Volvo Ocean Race sailing yachts.
