Sudbury selects Nova Bus’ ITS4mobility
Saint-Eustache, Quebec, April 9, 2009 — At the term of its bid process, the city of Sudbury has selected Nova Bus to retrofit their current bus fleet with the ITS4mobility Intelligent Transportation System (ITS.) The system will then be factory-installed on subsequent Nova LFS vehicles delivered as part of a multi-year agreement which extends to 2011.
According to Jean-Pierre Baracat, Vice President of Business Development for Nova Bus, this agreement is indicative of a growing trend in the public transit industry, adding, “Intelligent Transportation Systems are powerful tools to optimize information use and communication with vehicles in service, in order to provide top service to users and ease fleet management for Transit Authorities. They are a core component of the future of public transit. We are proud that the city of Sudbury, a long-time business partner, has chosen to renew their confidence in Nova Bus.”
The ITS4mobility system provides multiple communication and data processing functions; Sudbury’s configuration will enable users to enjoy next-stop vocal and visual announcements. Vehicles will be equipped with GPS, for real-time location and schedule information, and text messaging for two-way communication. The system also includes a diagnostic system that facilitates defect identification, for enhanced productivity.
