Briefly explain how the structure of the LFS Smart Bus provides the best possible impact protection for drivers.
JYV – “Accidents are unfortunate and often involve factors that are out of our control. That’s why prevention is key and every piece of the puzzle matters. The front structure of the LFS Smart Bus is reinforced with two parallel stainless steel tubes, creating a protective cell for the driver in case of frontal impact. This section of our bus was designed to absorb impact by redistributing the impact energy.”
What about the passenger area – does it include structural protection features?
JYV – “Our buses are also equipped with strong stainless-steel side-impact barriers to offer superior resistance in the event of a side impact.
In our test, the bullet vehicle was travelling at a speed of just over 25 mph right before it impacted the bus. The collision resulted in a structural deformation of 3/8 of an inch in the passenger area. This is far below the APTA White Book’s maximum allowance of 3 inches. And most importantly, no sharp edges or protrusions developed in the passenger compartment during the test.”
Are there any other safety features that differentiate Nova Bus from other manufacturers?
JYV – “Yes. Structure-wise, Nova Bus is the only manufacturer to add street-level structural reinforcement at the rear of the vehicle. By doing so, we offer the industry’s best rear structural protection. Not only does this protect your powertrain, it also protects your wallet in the event of rear impact, since that is where the most expensive components are located.
Our LFS Smart Buses come standard with other safety features such as balanced all-wheel disc brakes that minimize stopping distance and a single windshield for optimal visibility.”
